Helping those in need
St. Bede’s provides a free dine-in breakfast on Tuesday morning between 8:30 am – 10 am (no hot food after 9:45 am when kitchen closes). This healthy breakfast is available for all members of the local community, including residents from Supported Residential Facilities, rough sleepers, couch-surfers and those who live in their cars.
Breakfast is served in the main hall and volunteers provide a place where people can meet, socialise and support each other in a safe environment which welcomes the most vulnerable people in our society. It is supported by an Anglicare Community Grant and staffed by volunteers from the parish, local area and several who come from further afield. Most weeks there are noodle cups, bread, fresh vegetables and some groceries to give away to those in need — thanks to the generosity of San Remo partnering with Regency Park Rotary, Semaphore Bakehouse and Semaphore IGA.
On a lovely sunny afternoon on the 15th March 2020, the ”Barber of St. Bede’s”, Stephen David’s memory was celebrated with tributes and fine fare at St. Bede’s Hall. In his memory, Stephen’s sister, Trish, donated an outdoor table setting [seen in our photo below], made from 25,000 recycled plastic bags (very environmentally friendly!). Stephen will be remembered for his generosity, kindness, caring, friendship, and steadfast service to St. Bede’s Community. The furniture and attendees were all blessed by Rev. Ruth with holy water and rosemary. Thank you to all who helped to prepare this special dedication service.
